I
have a preference for using a French Press or my Capresso Super-Automatic machine for Espresso drinks.
But I know some people prefer using a brewpot
or other machine.
The 2 easiest and least expensive ways to make coffee also yield the best, most consistent and flavorful cup of coffee:
- French Press - you can buy one from $20-50 and with a grinder and with a little experimentation you can nail a solid cup/pot of coffee. The drawbacks are that it takes about 10 minutes between grinding, heating up water, measuring in the grounds and cleaning up afterwards. The other drawback is that if the pot is bigger than the cup of coffee you're drinking it'll get cold within about 10 minutes of brewing and pressing.
- Pour-Over - pretty much a Melitta-style cup of coffee - and it only costs as much as the cone and the filter. The coffee is ground finer and you may have to use as much as 2x as much coffee to get the strength you're after - but we're talking about an .5 - .75 ounces of coffee per 8 ounce cup that you want - big deal!
Basic Guidelines:
- Grind beans just before you brew.
- Use the best quality water you can muster
- Start with cool water
- Experiment with the grind until you get the best taste. When you grind too fine the taste will be bitter, too coarse and you're compromising the coffee flavor.
